Mission Critical
Providing Critical Healthcare to
Remote Communities Worldwide
Our mission is to break the vicious cycle of poverty in communities marginalized and isolated. At MaryCare, we are dedicated to providing access to critical healthcare, nutrition, clean water, and micro loans in order to provide basic healthcare and give entrepreneurs the start they need to launch a small business.
Everyone has the right to thrive.
Our health center in Ejemekwuru, Nigeria receives close to 300 patients every week. Patients come for prenatal care, childbirth assistance, and treatment for hundreds of medical conditions and chronic diseases — including malaria, diabetes, hypertension, anemia, asthma, typhoid, hepatitis, and various infections and inflammatory diseases.
In communities where healthcare is scarce or nonexistent, Marycare provides the critical medical intervention that saves lives and gives people the chance to build healthier futures.

OUR STORY
Marycare Health Center, Nigeria: Life-Saving. Life-Changing.
It all began in January 2011, when a team of volunteer doctors and nurses traveled to Nigeria for the first medical mission to Ejemekwuru, Imo State. This dedicated team provided medical care to over 600 patients — many receiving healthcare for the first time in their lives. After witnessing the overwhelming suffering and loss of life due to lack of basic nutrition and medical care, Marycare determined that Ejemekwuru was the ideal location for a permanent medical facility.
The Marycare Health Center was officially commissioned on January 12, 2016. Today, we operate a full-service facility with four treatment rooms, a patient ward, and an open reception area for outpatient care.
Our staff includes a medical doctor (Thursdays 9-4), two nurses, one nurse's aide, domestic staff, and a director of operations (Monday–Friday). We're committed to recruiting locally whenever possible, investing in the community we serve.
We continuously work to equip and supply our facility, sourcing retired medical equipment, supplies, and medications from hospitals across the U.S. and shipping them to our clinic in Nigeria.
ACCESSIBLE CARE FOR ALL
Healthcare Without Barriers
.Founder Anne Bates envisioned providing services free of charge, encouraging people to seek the medical attention they desperately need without fear of cost. In this spirit, patients pay only a modest registration fee (equivalent to $1.30) to obtain a medical card. This card allows them to consult with our doctors and receive medications at no additional cost. Patients unable to pay the registration fee are never turned away — everyone receives treatment regardless of their ability to pay.
